La Antigua

La Antigua was the second settlement of the Villa Rica de la Veracruz.  It is located 25 kms. to the north of the Port on the highway to Xalapa, passing the toll booth and turning left.  Within its most important sites is the house of Hernán Cortés, surrounded by huge trees and roots that give a touch of the mysterious to the place, which still has parts of the original structure, his room, the well the central patio and what once was the clay oven for baking bread.  These are just some of the elements of the house that we can see. Everything is covered by the shade of the palms and other trees that form a part of the history of this old colonial house. Admission Free.
