Cempoala

Its name comes from the Náhuatl language and means “Twenty Waters” because it is surrounded by the rivers of the region, it is one of the most important archeological sites in the state.  It consists in various buildings that still radiate an imposing beauty today (the Major Temple, The temple of the Chimneys, the Gladiator Circle, the Temple of the Faces, Temple of the Wind God, Temple of the Cross).

This complex is surrounded by green pastures and coconut palms that give the place a feeling of mystery that it evokes times when it functioned as a second capitol for the Totonaca Empire, before it was dominated by the Aztecs.

It is located 43 kms. From the Port of Veracruz heading to the north.  Passing the Cardel turnoff and continuing on the superhighway to the turnoff to Tampico, its schedule is fro 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
